Once again.....took my eyes off the work and ended up messing up! So here's what happened: I was shapping the neck (with a Madagascar RW fingerboard and Maple Binding) when I got distracted and looked away and "voila"....sanded through the binding all the way to the fingerboard right at the end where it meets the nut! About 1/4 inch of binding is missing ![]() ![]() Any suggestions? I was about all done too ![]() Start a new one is always a good suggestion but I rather fix this one first ![]() |

I am *not* a repair expert (well, nor a building expert for that matter! ![]() clamp to the fingerboard a small block of wood with a straigt edge such that it would work as a fence of sorts for a laminate trimmer or dremel with a _Binding/Binding_Router_Guide.html">binding router guide. The fence would be such that it will allow you to cut a new rabbet at an angle that will give you the width of binding you need at the nut and will "blend" into the existing binding over, say, six inches. Set a new piece of maple on that rabbet and plane or scrape it flush with the existing binding. If you're a better jointer than me, with maple I imagine the joint could be hidden pretty well. Tell me if I'm making no sense at all. Or if it's just a dumb idea, which is also a distinct possibility ![]() Good luck. |

Never give up a chance to try a repair. I'd say patch it or replace it. The question is though did you get into the neck wood too deep also? That might be a tough one. I'm not a repair guy so wait for one of the repair heavy weights to chime in. Might help to see it. Good luck |

I think that if you did not cut trough to the neck, it is salvageable, maybe by applying heat, scrape it off, make a new binding piece, glue up and voila! bUT WAIT FOR THE PROS!!!! ![]() |

I don't think I would try to patch it. I agree with the others, replace the binding. |
